SPOKANE, Wash. cheap nfl jerseys . -- Adreian Payne sent Tom Izzo a text. He wants to leave a legacy. Consider it done. The 6-foot-10 senior played the game of his life Thursday, scoring a career-high 41 points to help fourth-seeded Michigan State look every bit like a March Madness favourite in a 93-78 victory over Delaware. "He was playing in another zone, not even in the ozone," Izzo said. "He was in Pluto and beyond." This marked the first 40-point performance in the NCAA tournament since Stephen Curry did it for Davidson in a win over Gonzaga in 2008. Payne set a school tournament scoring record, surpassing the 34 points Greg Kelser scored during Michigan States 1979 title run led by Magic Johnson. Paynes overall line: 10 for 15 from the field, 4 for 5 from 3-point range, and a tournament-record 17 for 17 from the free throw line. He chipped in eight rebounds, too. "Forty-one is 41, and he was a load tonight," Delaware coach Monte Ross said. "He was probably the best big man that I have faced in 21 years of college basketball." Payne thought long and hard about leaving for the NBA after last season. He decided to stick around to see if he could lead Michigan State to another Final Four. Asked what his best night -- at least so far -- in a Spartan uniform means to him, Payne said, "Leaving a legacy." "I talked to Coach about that," he said. "The other day, I sent him a text and were just trying to win games. We are here to win the weekend and thats the main goal." Michigan States next game is Saturday against 12th-seeded Harvard, which beat Cincinnati 61-57 in an earlier East region contest. Though his entire performance was sublime, it was never better than during a 105-second stretch midway through the first half. Payne scored 12 straight points to help the Spartans (27-8) open an 18-point lead over the 13th-seeded Blue Hens (25-10). Those points came three at a time -- a trio of spot-up 3s and one ridiculous, spinning left-hander from the paint while he was being mugged by Carl Baptiste. Payne stepped to the line to make the free throw with his right hand -- the hand he shoots most of his shots with -- and by then, he had pretty much proven his point. "He made the right decision to stay," Izzo said. "Hes a much more cerebral player, hes a much stronger player. He is starting to marry the inside-outside game. And if he does that on a consistent basis, I see him as one of the best 4 men in the whole country." With the game out of reach -- but Izzo less than satisfied with what he called an uneven effort -- Payne played almost to the end and the Spartans fed him. He dunked with 4:26 left to reach his career high and break Kelsers record. Points Nos. 40 and 41 came on free throws; the second one gave him the record for most makes in an NCAA tournament game without a miss. The previous holders are a couple of unforgettable names: Bill Bradley (1963, Princeton) and Fennis Dembo (1987, Wyoming). "When youre scoring like that and your games coming so easy to you, and you make a lot of shots, it feels like youre in a rhythm," Payne said. "It feels like you cant be stopped." For the brief moments Delaware did stop him, others stepped up. Travis Trice scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half to prevent the Colonial Athletic Association champs from turning this into a game. Branden Dawson, the Big Ten tournaments most valuable player, finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists -- modest on this day. It was that run through the Big Ten that turned Michigan State into a trendy pick in brackets across the country. President Barack Obama has the Spartans winning it all, and Las Vegas has them favoured along with Florida and Louisville. Devon Saddler had 21 points and Davon Usher added 20 for Delaware, which made its first NCAA appearance since 1999. Ross looked at it all with a sense of awe. He thought his team played pretty well. He still cant believe Michigan State is a No. 4 seed. "Im only reiterating what the whole country is saying," Ross said. "If the country is saying youre the odds-on favourite to win the national championship, youre not 16th best in the country." wholesale nfl jerseys . The cross-country skiers both won their races on Sunday, with McKeever taking the mens visually impaired 10-kilometre event before Klebl surprised the field with a stunning victory in the mens 10-kilometre sitting category. cheap jerseys from china .J. Mayo made seven three-pointers and scored 25 points, Ersan Ilyasova added 20, and the Milwaukee Bucks placed seven players in double figures in a 130-110 rout of the Philadelphia 76ers, who lost their 11th straight game on Monday night.PORTLAND, Ore. -- It is said that Kaleb Canales spends so much time at the Trail Blazers practice facility that hes got a bedroom there. Truth is, Canales sleeps many nights on a couch in the building. But rest has been rare recently for Portlands new interim head coach, who started with the team in 2004 as an unpaid intern. Canales became the NBAs first Mexican-American head coach when he took over for Nate McMillan, who was dismissed last week following six-plus years at the helm of the Blazers. Also the youngest head coach in the league at 33, Canales assumes a team in disarray. After a promising start to the season, the Blazers have withered with losses in nine of their last 12 games. Portlands housecleaning last Thursday was swift. Over the course of the day, McMillan was fired and two trade-deadline deals sent starters Gerald Wallace and Marcus Camby elsewhere. Former No. 1 draft pick Greg Oden, the often-injured big man who was once hailed as the Blazers ticket to an NBA championship, was unceremoniously waived. Canales was thrust into the jumble when he was made acting head coach, joining acting general manager Chad Buchanan in "interim" status. Canales has been charged with the difficult task of inspiring the team thats left to finish out the season. The first thing he did as head coach was to gather everyone at practice. One by one, he asked them if they were dedicated to the Blazers. "I just know that were going to hold them accountable," he said. "Weve asked for them to commit to each other and to commit to competing, playing together. Thats what were going to expect from anybody." Right after that meeting, the Blazers responded by beating the Eastern Conference-leading Bulls 100-89 in Chicago. But as reality has set in, theyve lost two straight, including a 116-87 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, Canales had his team running competition shooting games, and the losers were stuck with push-ups. He was right there with the guys doing the push-ups when his group lost. Later in the day, McMillan paid a surprise visit to the practice facility to say goodbye and thank employees. The respected coach had already bid farewell to his players, stopping by the hotel in Chicago before the Bulls victory. While some would say Canales role is more about player development at this point thaan winning games, he certainly doesnt see it that way. cheap jerseys. "Every loss hurts," Canales said. With just 20 games remaining in the lockout-shortened regular season, the Blazers host the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday night. A native of Laredo, Texas, Canales didnt play basketball in college. After he landed with the Blazers as an intern, he worked his way up to video co-ordinator, then part-time assistant coach and finally full-time assistant under McMillan. He coached the team at the NBAs Summer League in Las Vegas for three seasons. Asked how he feels about his new role with the team, Canales was quick to deflect attention, relying on an old cliche that drew groans and laughs from those gathered around. Canales is nothing if not personable. "Im not going to lie and say its not special," he said. "But its not about me. Its about us." In deference to McMillan, Canales has not moved into his former head coachs offices at either the practice facility or in the teams Rose Garden locker room. "My first and second year he would actually sleep here every night in case guys came back late, or he would be here if guys came in early in the morning," said LaMarcus Aldridge, who has played in Portland since 2006. "He wanted to be here all day, all night. So that was pretty tough. I wouldnt do that. Id go home." Bill Schonely, the longtime Blazers broadcaster who coined the phrase "Rip City" and now is a special ambassador for the team, had nothing but praise for Canales. "I love him. Hes a very down-to-earth, very good person. He loves the team, he loves to teach, and he loves each and every one of those players," Schonely said. "And the players love him to death in return." While this season looks bleak for the Blazers, the summer should be interesting. As a result of several moves this season, Portland has stockpiled picks for the June NBA draft and has cleared as much as $25 million in cap space in hopes of landing a premier player -- preferably a point guard. Canales is well aware his stint as head coach is temporary, but he plans to make the most of it. And that means that the couch at the practice facility wont see much use in the next several weeks. "I dont think Im going to have time for anything else except preparing this team every night," he joked. ' ' '
