The Toronto Argonauts announced on Tuesday that theyve extended All-Star offensive tackle Chris Van Zeyl through the 2016 season. Justin Houston . "Chris came to us as a young, Canadian defensive lineman who had a very high athletic ceiling," said general manager Jim Barker in a release. "We have watched closely over the years as he has grown and established himself as one of the top offensive tackles in our league. We are very happy to extend his contract and keep him in Double Blue into the future." Van Zeyl was originally drafted by the Montreal Alouettes 17th-overall in the 2007 CFL Draft as a defensive lineman. He came to the Argos as a free agent the following September and was converted to right tackle. The 30-year-old native of Fonthill, Ontario has made 65 starts for the Argos and was a member of their Grey Cup-winning team in 2012. "I am thrilled to extend my contract with the Argonauts," said Van Zeyl in a release. "Since Ive been here, this team has made it a priority to fill our locker room with exceptional players, as well as excellent coaches from whom Ive learned so much. It is because of this commitment to excellence that I have been able to develop and flourish as a player here." The Argonauts are back in action on Saturday when they host the Calgary Stampeders.
