The Red Sox and the Cardinals each had the best record in their respective leagues (both 97-65,) marking the first time since 1999 (Yankees-Braves) that the regular seasons two best clubs are squaring off for a world championship. GAME ONE PREVIEW: PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RHP Adam Wainwright (Regular season: 19-9, 2.94, 1.068 WHIP; Playoffs: 3GS: 2-1, 1.57, 0.783 WHIP in 23IP) Only six Red Sox have ever faced Wainwright in a big league game, one of them is Ryan Dempster (4 AB,) another is Mike Carp (3 AB.) Heres the key information on the four whove seen Wainwright most: Shane Victorino: 5-22, .227/.261/.409, 1 HR, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 2 K.Stephen Drew: 2-19, .105/.190/.158, 1 2B, 2 BB, 5 K.David Ross: 2-11, .182/.250/.545, 1 HR, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 4 K.Jonny Gomes: 2-10, .200/.273/.600, 1 HR, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 4 K. LINEUP CONSIDERATIONS: The Cardinals will get first baseman Allen Craig (.315/.373/.457, 13 HR, 97 RBI, 29 2B) back from a sprained ankle suffered on September 4. Craig is expected to be the designated hitter in Games One and Two, with the Cardinals holding the option to keep him off the field under American League rules. Adrian Chambers was taken off St. Louis playoff roster to make room for Craig. Red Sox LHP Jon Lester (Regular season: 15-8, 3.75, 1.294 WHIP; Playoffs: 2-1, 2.33, 1.189 WHIP in 19.1IP) Only three Cardinals have ever faced Lester, none has more than six at-bats and none has an extra base hit. LINEUP CONSIDERATIONS: The Red Sox enter the World Series healthy amongst position players. Xander Bogaerts (ALCS: 3-6, 3 2B, 3 BB) and Jonny Gomes (2013 Playoffs: 5-25, 2 2B, 2 RBI) are expected to be in the starting lineup, at third base and in left field, respectively. Will Middlebrooks and Daniel Nava (Regular Season: .303/.385/.445, 12 HR, 29 2B) will be relegated to bench roles. For a man who makes a living flirting with disaster Guay is collected and reasoned in his approach to most everything in life. Guay spent the summer looking for some answers for the chronic sore back that has bothered him the last several seasons. He now understands what causes the searing pain and has started the process of correcting the problem. But Guay isnt promising any immediate results when the World Cup downhill season begins later this month at Lake Louise, Alta. "My back has been out of whack for about five years now," Guay said before attending a recent Alpine Canada fundraising dinner at a trendy downtown restaurant. "Im not going to mend everything in two months of work. "It feels different but I dont want to make any promises that I am going to be off to a great start. Lake Louise is not a great place for me to start with anyway. I am typically a slow starter." Over his career the 30-year-old Mont-Tremblant, Que., native has established himself as one of Canadas best ski racers. He battled his way through crippling pain last winter to win the downhill race at the world alpine championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. That came after winning the super-giant slalom Crystal Globe the previous season. When the ski season ended Guay took two months off to rest his back. He made the decision to leave Calgary, where Alpine Canada is located, and return to Montreal to work with the B2ten athlete group that helped Olympic moguls champion Jenn Heil rebuild her body. Guay has a herniated disc in his back. Through a series of tests, and by analysing his movements, it was discovered the problem stemmed from a knee injury Guay suffered in 2003. "Just that constant skiing and compensating I was doing on that one side was tightening up my hips, putting my pelvis out of whack, giving me Scoliosis of the spine," Guay said. Scoliosis is a condition where a persons spine becomes curved. Instead of being straight, the spine might look like an S or even a C. Guay began a program of working on clean movements. He built strength and stamina in his back. During the process he lost 15 pounds. "Im not sure how that is going to translate on snow," GGuay said. wholesale jerseys. "Im not sure whether its going to result in a lack of speed or a lack of power. "I guess we will have to wait and see." Guay said fixing his back remains a work in progress. He will continue to do some maintenance exercises over the winter. "I still have a lot of work to do," he said. "This year I dont think I will be in top racing form because I missed two ski camps this summer. All those things add up, meaning its probably going to be a little bit of a catching-up year. Im a competitor and I never like to finish far out." Guay has 15 World Cup podium finishes during his career. Thats one more than former Crazy Canuck Ken Reed. Steve Podborski leads all Canadian skiers with 20 podium finishes. At the 2010 Winter Olympics Guay missed a medal by just .03 of a second, finishing fifth in super-G. His long-term plan is to be on the podium at the 2014 Games in Sochi, Russia. After that Guay hasnt decided if he will continue skiing. "We will see how the body reacts," he said. "I will be 32. I could make it to the next Olympics after that if the body wants to follow me there. "Its really going to be completely dependent on how the body feels and how I how I feel. I love ski racing. If I can keep going, I will keep going for sure." Being the father of a young daughter, and the time spent away from home, will also factor into the decision. "Being away from home that long, with a little girl that adores you, its not easy," he said. "My wife . . . she is basically a single parent for the whole winter time. "It will be a family decision." Guay has signed a new deal with Red Bull, one of his major sponsors. He also hopes to give back to the sport of ski racing. Guay is working on a plan to fund a training camp in Europe for young Canadian skiers who will race at the 2012 world junior championships in Roccaraso, Italy. "I think ski racing kicks off at world juniors," said Guay. "If you do well at world juniors thats a good launching pad to the World Cup scene. "I dont want to see a lull like we did after the Crazy Canucks where ski racing kind of dried up. I want to make sure it keeps going." cheap jerseys ' ' '
