BOSTON -- On a night when the World Series trophy was carried onto the ice, the Bruins gave Boston sports fans one more reason to cheer. Brad Nortman Womens Jersey . Zdeno Chara scored the tying goal on a power play with under 3 minutes remaining in regulation and Jarome Iginla had the lone goal in a shootout to rally the Bruins past the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 on Thursday. "Its a sports city, clearly," said Chris Kelly, who had an assist and was wearing a World Series championship T-shirt after the game. "The crowd here is always awesome. Halloween night, a lot of people might decide to take their kids trick-or-treating. But not in Boston. Theyre here." And they witnessed another win for the home team. Bruins players came out for warmups wearing World Series caps, and the crowd got into it midway through the second period when Boston Red Sox highlights from their clinching win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night at Fenway Park were shown on the JumboTron. Bruins team President Cam Neely and Red Sox President and CEO Larry Lucchino then came onto the ice and held the World Series trophy high above their heads. During the timeout, Kelly instantly noticed the trophy. "I wouldnt mind getting a picture with it," he said. Carl Soderberg scored his first NHL goal and Tuukka Rask made 21 saves for the Bruins, who mustered only one shot in the first period but still managed to snap a two-game skid. "I think we have a lot of competitive guys and when youre down, that desperation level kicks in," said defenceman Torey Krug, who also had an assist. "Weve got to do a better job of starting games out." Devante Smith-Pelly scored less than 2 minutes into the game, Mathieu Perreault had a goal and an assist and Jonas Hiller stopped 21 shots for the Ducks. But they went 0 for 4 on the power play, dropping the leagues worst unit to 7.3 per cent (4 for 55). Anaheim was on the verge of its fourth straight victory until Patrick Maroons tripping penalty with 2:58 left in the third period gave Boston late life. "Thats three games in a row that weve taken a penalty in the last 2 minutes of the game," Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said. It didnt take long for the Bruins to capitalize. David Krejci scooped up a loose puck just outside the crease and slid a pass through the legs of defenceman Cam Fowler that Chara easily slipped past Hiller with 2:50 to go, setting off a celebration in the stands. Iginla then put Boston ahead in the shootout with his wrist shot over Hillers glove. After Rask turned aside two weak attempts by the Ducks, Ryan Getzlaf hit the crossbar to end the game. "They didnt have a shot on goal in the first period until the 18-minute mark," Boudreau said. "But if you dont score, eventually a really good team is going to come up and bite you and thats what happened." After scoring the game-winner with 0.8 seconds left last Thursday to stun the San Jose Sharks, the Bruins gave up a pair of late goals in each of their previous two games, including two power-play tallies 23 seconds apart in a setback to New Jersey on Saturday. Despite the buzz in the building Thursday following Bostons third World Series title in the last 10 years, the Bruins got off to a slow start. A slap shot by Chara more than 18 minutes into the game was Bostons lone shot of the first period. Anaheim had five shots, but needed only one to score. Smith-Pelly got his first goal of the season 1:52 into the game to give the Ducks a quick lead. After the World Series trophy came out, the Bruins picked up their play. They tied the score minutes later when Soderberg broke in alone on Hiller and slipped the puck between his legs for his first career goal. "It means a lot to me," Soderberg said. "Ive been playing in Europe for 10 years at the highest level there, but its still not the NHL. I came here at 28 years old, so I wanted to see if I could play in the NHL. "Im pretty glad I scored." Perreaults fifth goal put the Ducks back on top with 20.9 seconds remaining in the second. After winning a faceoff in the Bruins zone, Perreault corralled a pass inside the circle just seconds later, spun to his right and slid a shot by Rasks right leg. "That goal in the last 20 seconds of the second would probably have broken a lot of teams backs. It didnt break ours," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "Id rather give my team credit for this one than say were fortunate. "For us to come out here and play a great game and then battle right until the end and win this against a team that was fresh and waiting for us here, if anything, I would say thats a real gutsy effort on our part." NOTES: The Bruins recalled C Ryan Spooner from Providence of the AHL and he got his first NHL point when he assisted on Soderbergs goal. He also missed the first shot of the shootout. ... The Ducks played without forward Teemu Selanne, expected to miss two weeks after losing four teeth and receiving 40 stitches in his mouth following a high stick in a victory over Philadelphia on Tuesday. The 43-year-old ranks second on the active scoring list with 1,437 points and plans to retire after the season. ... Despite not starting four of its stars that played in the Confederations Cup, including Brazils David Luiz and Spains Juan Mata, Chelsea nonetheless at times looked to be in midseason form in the exhibition match before a crowd of 41,983 at Lucas Oil Stadium. Hazards came on a penalty kick in the 29th minute. Although an exhibition, the inaugural eight-team, 12-game International Champions Cup is being staged to promote some of Europes best while offering the teams a chance to prepare for their league seasons that begin at the end of the month. "Oscar has been with us for five days because of the Confederations Cup," Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said. "Weve worked a lot on our movement, and it will help us in difficult situations. Its good to see in matches what I see in training. I want him to be a top player, not just a top talent." Chelsea advances to play AC Milan in the semifinals Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Inter Milan will play Valencia, a 2-1 loser to AC Milan in its quarterfinal match last weekend, in the tournaments consolation semifinal earlier Sunday at MetLife. The other clubs in the tournament are Everton, Juventus, Real Madrid and the Los Angeles Galaxy - the only MLS team participating. Real Madrid beat the Galaxy 3-1 in their quarterfinal Thursday in Glendale, Ariz. The championship final is Wednesday in Miami Gardens, Fla. As the tournaments only Midwestern venue, the match was considered groundbreaking for a city that has struggled to support professional soccer in the past. It was the first soccer game ever held at Lucas Oil, the 5-year-old home stadium for the NFLs Indianapolis Colts. It was also the first time a natural grass surface was laid inside the stadium, thanks to more than 100,000-square feet of Kentucky Bluegrass that was trucked in last weekend. Indianapolis will give pro soccer another try next year with the Indy Eleven joining the North American Soccer League in 2014. The team will be Indys ninth pro or semi-pro team since 1973. On Thursday night, it proudly hung its banner in the middle of the Colts horseshoe on the north side of the sstadium. Jordan Gross Panthers Jersey. "Its nice that people can come to downtown Indianapolis to see international quality soccer rather than have to go to New York, Chicago or Los Angeles," said Juergen Sommer, coach of the Indy Eleven. "People really get it. The fan base for soccer is undersold here." The match featured intrigue on the sidelines with Mourinho coaching against his former team for the first time since his two-year stint with Inter Milan from 2008-10. Mourinho, who managed Chelsea from 2004-07, returned to the Blues on June 2 after managing Spains Real Madrid the past three seasons. Soccer supporters in London are fond of the Portuguese coach, who dubbed himself "Special One" on the first day of his first stint with the team. He then led Chelsea to two Premier League titles and one FA Cup. They no doubt hope that Mourinho can bring the magic touch back to Chelsea this time around. Although it captured the Europa League title in May, one London daily newspaper labeled it "small beer" for a club that went into the 2012-13 season as defending Champions League winners. The Blues were eliminated in the tournaments group stage this past season. Mourinho also didnt start Fernando Torres and Cesar Azpilicueta of Spain. All players subbed into play in the second half. For new Inter coach Walter Mazzarri, who is trying to improve the Italian side after it finished ninth in the league last season, the game also gave him a chance to work recent acquisitions Mauro Icardi and Hugo Campagnaro into the team. Campagnaro was issued a red card in the 58th minute. "The first half was very good for both sides," Mourinho said. "The red card changed (the game) completely. Not good for them because they played with 10, and not good for us, because we played against 10." Chelsea dominated nearly from start to finish. Two minutes after Inters Fredy Guarin almost volleyed in a shot past Chelsea keeper Petr Cech, Chelsea went up 1-0 on a goal by Brazilian star Oscar in the 13th minute after he capitalized on teammate Victor Moses powerful run through the midfield. The pro-Chelsea crowd roared as Oscars shot settled into the top right-hand corner of the net after Moses slipped him the ball. Chelsea then went up 2-0 in the 29th minute on a penalty kick by Hazard. ' ' '
