Ed. Melvin White Jersey . Note: The Calgary Flames announced Tuesday that Sean Monahan would not be made available to Canadas World Junior team. In a perfect world, Team Canada head coach Brent Sutter would be bringing every eligible NHL player with him to Malmo, Sweden as part of his squad at the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championship, but thats not where we reside. As it stands, theres the distinct possibility that Minnesota Wild defenceman Mathew Dumba will be the only NHL roster player going. Nathan MacKinnon isnt about to be excused from the high-flying Colorado Avalanche and the Washington Capitals arent about to divest themselves of rugged forward Tom Wilson, but the final two names on that last are intriguing options - defenceman Morgan Rielly of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames forward Sean Monahan. While the signs seem to indicate that neither will be released, both would provide some NHL-calibre experience (well, as veteran as a 19-year-old can be) to a team short on returning players from last years roster and experienced with such a high level of play. Only Jonathan Drouin, Griffin Reinhart, Jake Paterson and Charles Hudon are back - and Hudon actually missed the tournament because of injury. But which of the pair does Canada need more and which is more likely available? On Monday, Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle called loaning out Rielly, "counterproductive" to his development and director of hockey operations Dave Poulin told the Toronto Sun that the team viewed Rielly as a core piece moving forward this season. "Id say hes a big part of this group right here, right now and we dont see that changing at this point," Poulin said on Friday. "Thats the way were looking at it." That said, Hockey Canada has stated that the Leafs have not officially ruled out loaning out Rielly. Riellys transition to the pro game hasnt been without its rookie year bumps. Hes been a healthy scratch six times in 27 games this season and has struggled in his own end at times, especially while partnered with Cody Franson. While the Leafs defence was been far from strong, they do have a surplus of blueliners and the team could easily make do without Rielly (who had a goal and two assists in six games at last years WJHC) from two weeks. The former Moose Jaw Warriors confident puck-handling and passing, as well as his shot from the point, could make him the ideal candidate to quarterback the power play for Brent Sutters team. The potential inclusion of Monahan is a more complicated proposition. Last week, the first-year forward was placed on injured reserve by the Flames with a cracked bone in his foot. Hes currently listed as week-to-week. Now, this injury might conclude any discussion of Jay Feaster loaning out Monahan, but if the timeframe on his injury is accurate, it wouldnt preclude his participation. But the fear of his injury recurring while away from his NHL club could be a concern. Monahan has inarguably been a more central figure to the Flames this season than Rielly has to the Leafs. On a team needing offence, Monahan sits second on the Flames in both goals (nine) and points (15.) The fact that the former Ottawa 67 is so important to the teams 22nd-ranked offence means that his absence would be greatly felt. But there is a flipside to the injury. If the Flames can do more than tread water during his absence and find scoring from elsewhere, then theres a chance that Bob Hartleys club would feel more confident about allowing the Brampton, Ontario native to head to Malmo. With no MacKinnon, Monahan could be a fine replacement to centre a line with Drouin. Yes, the chances of either Rielly or Monahan suited up for Canada are slim, but which of the two would make the bigger impact? As always, its Your! Call. Kawann Short ., native Andrew Wiggins wasnt around a year ago for one of the worst nights in Kansas basketball history. Greg Olsen Authentic Jersey . 10 San Diego State to a 73-64 win over UNLV on Wednesday night. As a Milan Michalek clear made its way into the empty Jets net to seal the victory for the Ottawa Senators, it may have also sealed the Winnipeg Jets playoff hopes. It was a very entertaining game at the MTS Centre, with the Senators winning 6-4. Jets remain six points back of Buffalo and Washington, but the two meet Wednesday night so one team will move eight points up. The Jets have six games remaining, two at home and four on the road. Coach Claude Noel summed the game up in one sentence in his post-game news conference. "We didnt defend well enough," said Noel . Offensively, the Jets had their chances. They had a season-high 48 shots on goal, forced goaltender Craig Anderson to make a number of outstanding saves, failed to capitalize on a penalty shot that would have given them their first lead of the night, BUT they gave up five plus the empty net goal. There were so many turning points in this game for both teams. The Jets had the better chances in the first but a goal with 26 seconds left gave the Sens a 1-0 lead, a lead they stretched to 2-0 early in the second. But Antti Miettinen on the power play, followed by a Kyle Wellwood goal, tied the game before the second was seven minutes old. In actual playing time, the first four goals of the game came in a span of 7:20. Kyle Turris restored the Sens lead, but 20 seconds later Miettinen with his second tied it. It was his second two- goal game in the last five games. Jets had 30 shots on goal after two periods. Kyle Wellwood was awarded a penalty shot early in the third, giving the Jets the chance to get their first lead of the night, but he was stopped by Anderson. Sam Mills Jersey. 1:20 later, Daniel Alfredsson scored to again put the Sens in front. That goal took its toll on the Jets. For the next ten or so minutes, they looked tired as the Sens put their checking game to work and took away the neutral zone. But with perhaps the season on the line, the Jets cranked it up again and put 13 more shots on Anderson before all was done. A wild scramble lead to a reviewed but good goal by Evander Kane to once more tie the game with 2:57 left in regulation. But back to what coach Noel said post-game about defending. Alfredsson scored 24 seconds later to make it 5-4 Ottawa, with Michalek finishing it off. Wellwood finished the night with a goal and two assists, while Zach Bogosian finished with 10 shots on goal, Kane and Blake Wheeler six each, Bryan Little five. Jim Slater won 13 of 18 face-offs as the Jets got better in that category as the game went on. "A lot of moments where we could have had turning points," continued coach Noel. "But you cant trade chances with that team. From our foundation of checking you cant give up five goals plus an empty netter. We were on the wrong side of the puck in our end too many times." Jets next game is a home game Wednesday against the New York Rangers (TSN 1290). Game time is 6 p.m. as it is a TSN National game. Thursday the Jets leave on a four game road trip. ' ' '
