RED DEER, Alta. Martin Havlat Jersey . -- Heather Nedohins Alberta rink is into the final at the Canadian womens curling championship by the narrowest of margins. Her last shot of Saturdays semifinal against Manitobas Jennifer Jones was perhaps a centimetre closer to the button than Manitobas counter. Officials measured the stones twice to be sure, sparking double celebrations from 5,643 fans at the Enmax Centrium. Albertas 6-5 win in an extra end means the host province will face B.C.s Kelly Scott in the final Sunday. "If its anything like today people, tune in because its going to be dramatic," Nedohin said. "Its going to be good." Nedohin was prematurely mourning a loss during the measurements. She thought Manitobas stone was the winner and had her face on the shoulder of alternate Amy Nixon. "From the overhead (camera), I didnt think it was us," Nedohin said. "She said Theyre re-measuring and I said I cant handle this. Then I heard the crowd. The roar of the crowd was pretty sweet. "Im just so proud of the team. We battled against the No. 1 seed in Canada. We played hard and good on us." Alberta now takes on a skip with big-game experience in the final. Scott is a two-time Canadian champion and also won the world title in 2007. Sundays winner will represent Canada at the world championship in Lethbridge, Alta., next month and earns a return trip to the 2013 Scotties Tournament of Hearts wearing the Maple Leaf. Nedohin, third Beth Iskiw, second Jessica Mair and lead Laine Peters opened the tournament 2-3. But the squad won five of its last six to capture the fourth and final playoff berth with a 7-4 record. Alberta had beaten both B.C. and Manitoba in the round robin. "I expect the same from Kelly and the girls. Rocks in play," Nedohin said. "We had a great battle against them in the round robin. "Its the final. I would expect nothing less from both of us." The Edmonton foursome beat Quebecs Marie-France Larouche 7-4 in a playoff between the third and fourth seeds earlier Saturday to advance to the final. Nedohin will appear in her first final since 1999, when she played third for Cathy Borst as Heather Godberson . They lost that year to Colleen Jones after winning the title the previous year in Regina. Nedohin is the wife of David Nedohin, who won four Canadian mens championships throwing fourth stones for Edmontons Randy Ferbey. Heather Nedohin is the animated skip in the field. Her emotions are evident in her face and body language. Her voice came and went during the tournament, but she had enough left in her vocal chords left Saturday to call the play for Alberta. Its rare for Jones not to be in the final, as shes appeared in six of the previous seven and won four of them. Manitoba topped the preliminary round at 9-2 but was beaten in both playoff games to fall from contention. It lost 7-5 to B.C. the previous night in a playoff game between the top two seeds. Third Kaitlyn Lawes and second Jill Officer were off their games against B.C. Officer was sharper in Saturdays semifinal, but Lawes continued to struggle. She curled 60 per cent in the first five ends compared to 83 per cent by Alberta counterpart Iskiw. The Manitoba thirds frustration was evident in the fifth end when she turned away from her first throw before the stone finished in the house and rubbed her forehead. Lawes, 23, wiped away tears after the game. "Im a little disappointed with how I played personally," Lawes said. "The girls played great and you always want to set your team up as best you can, but I was always on the wrong side of the inch early." Jones herself had a gaffe in the seventh. She had an open peel to blank the end and try again for two points in the eighth. But the Manitoba skip hit and stayed to count one, which gave the hammer to Nedohin with the score tied 4-4. "Just a little flat in the playoffs which is uncharacteristic for us, but hopefully well learn from that and move on," Jones said. "I said all along it was a great field and Heathers team played outstanding today. "Kellys team played great yesterday and I know its going to be an outstanding final." Nedohin was on her game. Her pivotal double takeout in the 10th end prevented Jones from setting up for two points and the win. With Manitoba stones crowding the side and back of the button in the eighth, Nedohin tapped them just far enough to gain a bigger piece of the bottom for a point and a 5-4 lead. There was more drama earlier in the day against Quebec, requiring quick thinking and reflexes from Peters. Mair fell while she and Peters swept Nedohins last shot of the game. Peters used her broom and body to push Mair away from the rock so the second wouldnt burn it. With Alberta up 6-4 at that point, a burned rock would have been pulled from play. Larouche would have had a more room to score two with the hammer and send the game into an extra end. As it was, Larouche wasnt able to execute a difficult shot for the deuce. "Ironically weve been working on this new sweeping technique and weve had a lot of falls," Nedohin said. "Heads up for Laine to give her the boot. Two minutes for checking and well take it." Larouche and Jones will play for the bronze medal Sunday morning. The bronze-medal game was added to the tournament format last year. Jones wasnt excited to play in it. "I dont like the bronze-medal game at all," said Jones. "I dont think any player out here likes it, but well come out and play tomorrow." Manitoba dominated the tournaments first all-star team based on its performance in the preliminary round. Jones, Lawes, Officer and lead Dawn Askin led all players at their position in shooting percentage. Albertas Iskiw, Mair and Peters were second-team all-stars, with Scott selected as skip. Thornton scored 12 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter to lead Brooklyn to a 107-98 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night. Brooklyns Kevin Garnett missed the game with back spasms but wasnt needed as the Nets never trailed in the second half against the NBAs worst team. Thornton, playing in his third game for Brooklyn since being obtained in a Feb. 19 trade with Sacramento, came off the bench to make 8 of 13 from the field to help the Nets finish their seven-game road trip 4-3. "Im coming to a team with all these veterans, that know how to win, that have championship aspirations and have championships under their belts already, and a coach that has a championship, too," Thornton said. "I knew it would be a great situation." The 6-foot-4 guard signed a four-year, $31.2 million contract with Sacramento in 2011, but averaged only 8.3 points while shooting 38 per cent in 46 games for the Kings this season. Nets coach Jason Kidd wanted to see whether Thornton -- criticized by Sacramento coach Michael Malone for his defensive play -- could step up offensively and defensively at the end of games. "I want to find out coming down the stretch defensively can guys count on him, and then offensively can we count on him," Kidd said. "We know he can shoot the ball, put the ball in the basket, but coming down the stretch can he make plays? "This was a great opportunity to see that after a long trip, he stepped up," Kidd said. Milwaukee coach Larry Drew said his team struggled defensively, allowing 42 points in the paint. "Just too many defensive mistakes," he said. "Bad rotations. Going into the game one of the things we wanted to do was really try to affect them down on the block." Andray Blatche added 19 points and 13 rebounds for Brooklyn, including eight points and 10 rebounds in the fourth quarter. Jason Collins, who signed a 10-day contract with Brooklyn last Sunday, was held scoreless in 8 minutes. Khris Middleton and Ramon Sessions scored 16 points apiece for Milwaukeee. Patrick Marleau Jersey. "We didnt get the stops we needed," Middleton said. "We let them get so many things too easy. Our room for error is very small." Brooklyn has gone 18-8 in 2014 after opening the season 10-21. The Nets (28-29) play Chicago at home on Monday night with the chance to get back to .500 for the first time since being 2-2 on Nov. 5. "I dont think we have to concentrate on that right now," Andrei Kirilenko said of getting to .500. "We have been playing pretty good games. We need to stick with our game plan. Thats the only thing." The Nets play seven of their next 10 games at home, where they have won 10 of their last 12. Thornton hit a pair of 3-pointers, Paul Pierce made another 3 and Blatche scored on a putback as Brooklyn used an 11-6 run to open a 100-91 lead with 2:46 left. "I kind of felt disrespected because he played so far back," Thornton said with a laugh of Milwaukees Jeff Adrien while talking about his fourth-quarter jumpers. "It was one of those things. I tried to make the shots when the opportunity presented itself." Milwaukee never got closer than six points the rest of the game. Mirza Teletovic hit a 3-pointer to cap an 8-2 run opening the fourth quarter, giving the Nets an 85-74 lead with 10:04 left in the game. The Bucks then had an 11-4 run to pull within 89-85 on a pair of free throws by Giannis Antetokounmpo before Thornton sparked the Nets down the stretch. Brooklyn used a 20-11 run to open the second half and took a 75-64 lead on Joe Johnsons 3-pointer with 4:27 to go in the third quarter. Deron Williams scored 13 points in the first half and the Nets took a 55-53 lead at halftime. Brooklyn took the lead for good, 43-40, on Thorntons 3-pointer with 7:29 to go in the second quarter.
