CHICAGO -- The Detroit Tigers will have to wait at least another day to try to snap out of their recent funk. Tyler Johnson Jersey . The second game of the Tigers scheduled four-game series at the Chicago White Sox was postponed Tuesday night. The tarp stayed on the field all day as intermittent rain fell in the Chicago area. With more wet weather in the forecast for the rest of the night, the game was called about 2 hours before the scheduled start. There was no immediate announcement of a makeup date for the first postponed White Sox home game of the season. Detroit returns to Chicago for a three-game series from Aug. 29-31. The White Sox used the rainout to skip Andre Rienzos turn in the rotation. Left-hander John Danks was moved back a day to Wednesday, and Chris Sale will pitch in the series finale on Thursday. Rienzo, who has dropped each of his last three starts, will pitch Sunday against Kansas City. Detroit adjusted its rotation. Drew Smyly, who was slated to start Wednesdays game, was pushed out of the series altogether. Justin Verlander was moved back to Wednesday and Max Scherzer will face Sale on Thursday in a matchup of two of the best pitchers in the AL. The Tigers dropped to 4-3 against the White Sox this season with a 6-5 loss in the series opener Monday night. Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez and Eugenio Suarez homered, but Rick Porcello struggled through five-plus innings. AL Central-leading Detroit got off to a 27-12 start this season, but it has struggled of late. The Tigers, who won the division in each of the previous three seasons, have lost seven of nine and 15 of 21 overall. Before the game was called, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus had Cabrera at designated hitter and Victor Martinez at first base for the second straight night. Cabrera left Sunday nights 5-3 loss to Boston with left hamstring tightness, but went 2 for 4 in Monday nights loss. "He said hes feeling better today," Ausmus said. "Its going to be wet out there. I dont know if he would have played the field anyway, but the fact that its going to be raining on and off makes the decision easier to DH him." Cabrera is 8 for 14 with a homer and two RBIs in his last four games. The AL MVP the last two seasons is batting .329 with 12 homers and 52 RBIs in 2014, playing in each of Detroits first 60 games. "Its tough to get him out of the lineup because hes the best hitter in the game," Ausmus said. While the Tigers have been sliding, they have received a boost from Suarez. The 22-year-old rookie shortstop is 4 for 11 with two homers in four major league games since he was recalled from Triple-A Toledo last Wednesday. "It should give him confidence. He looks good with the bat. Hes swinging the bat well," Ausmus said. "The truth is that in baseball three weeks from now, if youre not swinging the bat well, your confidence is gone. You have to re-find. That happens to everybody at some point, without fail. I hope he goes through without ever struggling a day in his life. But chances are thats never going to happen." Ryan Callahan Authentic Jersey . Buck finished with two hits for the Indians, while starter Mitch Talbot threw 5 1/3 innings. He gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks, while striking out two. Niko Gallego and Tony Abreu had RBI doubles for Arizona. Valtteri Filppula Lightning Jersey . The St. Louis Cardinals were scheduled to arrive in Boston in time for a workout on Tuesday afternoon. Much of Mondays discussion focused on Bostons lineup considerations as the series progresses, specifically when the venue shifts to St.ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Brian Dawkins biggest contribution Sunday in the AFC wild card playoffs will be with his talking and not his tackling. Hampered by a neck injury, the Denver Broncos emotional leader hasnt practiced in weeks and was ruled out Friday for the first-round game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Still, Dawkins will be heard, even if its screaming from the sideline instead of barking out the calls. His voice has already energized the Broncos (8-8) after Dawkins delivered a rare speech following a 7-3 loss to Kansas City last week. He emphatically urged his teammates to forget about backing into the AFC West crown and fervently focus on the Steelers (12-4). "Hell be effective, one way or another," Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey said. "Hes the leader of this team." Pittsburgh is without one of its top safeties as well. Ryan Clark is sitting out as a precaution because of a blood disorder thats exacerbated by altitude. Thats just as big of a loss. After all, the steady play of Clark frees up Troy Polamalu to freelance and fly around the field. "Ryan does such an awesome job of complementing Troy," Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said. "People dont realize that. Troy makes a lot of plays and gets a lot of notoriety for it and publicity, but really I think Ryan is kind of the backbone for it. People dont know, but Troy ad-libs a lot. Troy just sees stuff and thats what makes him so good. "Well have to see how Troy does without Ryan back there as kind of his safety blanket." Dawkins loss is a blow to a team that lacks much playoff experience. Rookie Quinton Carter will play free safety while third-year player David Bruton once again fills in for Dawkins, provided, of course, hes healthy. Bruton is listed as questionable with an aching Achilles thats bothered him for weeks. Sure, those two younger safeties are far more spry than the 38-year-old Dawkins, but they dont have anywhere near his level of recognition, something Roethlisberger will try to exploit. "I dont know if anybody fills the void of (Dawkins) leadership and his ability to get us excited about playing," Denver defensive co-ordinator Dennis Allen said. "Brians been an outstanding player for a long time. Any time you lose that type of player, it hurts." Dawkins has been sorely missed ever since he pinched a nerve in his neck in the Broncos last win, against Chicago on Dec. 11. Hes been sidelined for all but one quarter of the past three games, all losses. "Hes a guy that comes down and stops the run and always seems to make the play," Roethlisberger said. "When you turn on the film, 20 is always in there." Just like old times. "Is he the same player he once wass? Probably not," said former Broncos safety John Lynch, whos now a television analyst. Alex Killorn Lightning Jersey. . "But hes still really good if you put him in the right situation and I feel Dennis Allen has done a great job in doing that all year. Come playoff time, certain principles come back and I always believed the safety position is huge. "You can do so much at that position, and thats a tough loss -- and really on a team that doesnt have a whole lot of playoff experience. Dawk brings that. I think its tough." Dawkins sauntered around the field Friday wearing a cap instead of a helmet and carrying on conversations as his teammates prepared. He looked more like a coach. Thats because, well, he is like one. Only, he doesnt put in as many hours. "He hasnt been up there at 11 or 12 at night when weve been up there," Allen said, laughing. The words and wisdom of Dawkins carry a lot of weight. Teammates are constantly leaning on Dawkins for advice, even during games. "Every single play, good or bad, he has a comment for it and how we can improve," Carter said. "You cant beat that. He just settles us down." The Broncos know they have to reverse their recent trend if theyre going to have a shot Sunday. Tim Tebow has turned the ball over seven times during their three-game skid and Denvers defence hasnt produced a single takeaway in that span. Backup Brady Quinn has been staying late after practice this week, working on timing routes with receiver Eric Decker. Quinn asserts hes just trying to stay sharp, and not because coaches have informed him that he may be called on should Tebows struggles continue. "No. Just trying to stay ready and get guys extra catches," said Quinn, who hasnt thrown a single pass in a regular season game during his two years in Denver. "Obviously, the wide receivers are trying to be ready, as well." Quinn said hes "as ready as you can be" if called upon. "Obviously, the backup doesnt get many reps, if any. So, youll just try to go out there and do the best you can." Coach John Fox has demurred when asked about the possibility of benching Tebow. "I dont want to speculate on those things," Fox said. "Like every game, we expect our starters to play well, and if for some reason an injury occurs or something happens, then its the next man up. That wont change any more this week than it has all season." Notes: The forecast for Sunday is calling for snow. "One thing Ive learned about my short time with Colorado weather: Denver, in particular, is predictably unpredictable," Fox said. ... FB Spencer Larsen (knee) is listed as doubtful for Sunday and receiver/returner Eddie Royal (toe) is probable. cheap jerseys from chinacheap jerseys ' ' '
