The game started with a brisk pace

The Rangers, Kings and Coyotes start off Round Two with wins. nfl jerseys china . Scott Cullen looks at three Game Ones and what could be coming next. RANGERS OPEN WITH A WINIts looking like New York Rangers rookie winger Chris Kreider could have a real impact on the playoffs, after a game in which he scored the winning goal and later added an assist in a 3-1 Game One win over Washington. It was Kreiders second game-winning goal of the postseason and his role has been increasing. He played 18:21 in Game Seven against Ottawa, then 15:28 on Game One against Washington, his two highest time on ice totals of the playoffs and with Brandon Dubinsky out of the Rangers lineup, there should be every opportunity for Kreider to keep playing a significant role. The Capitals and Rangers played the game to a virtual stalemate, recording a total of shots on goal between them (18-14 advantage for Washington). Henrik Lundqvist stopped 17 of those 18 shots he faced for the win. In his last four games, Lundqvist has stopped 96 of 101 shots faced (.950 SV%). Of all people to lead Game One in shots on goal, it was Rangers D Ryan McDonagh, who registered four of his teams 14 shots. Rangers C Brad Richards took 24 of 50 faceoffs in the game. Capitals C Nicklas Backstrom, with 16, took the second most in Game One. Even if it wasnt the prettiest of games, the Rangers dont need to worry about style points. They got a leg up in the series and might have even more reason for optimism that Kreider can be a valuable contributor going forward. PENNER PROPELS KINGSEnigmatic Kings winger Dustin Penner set up Los Angeles first goal and banked home the empty-netter to clinch a 3-1 Game One victory in St. Louis. Skating on the second line with Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, Penner and his linemates were each plus-2 on the game, even though they didnt dominate the possession game (per www.timeonice.com). The series was expected to bring a goaltending battle between Brian Elliott and Jonathan Quick and both goaltenders were as good as advertised. Following a hard-fought competitive Game One, the most long-lasting effect on hte series could be an injury to D Alex Pietrangelo, who was decked from behind by Kings LW Dwight King late in the second period. Pietrangelo didnt play the last 17 minutes of the game, so if there is a chance that the Blues will miss their best defenceman for even one more game, that poses a serious problem for St. Louis. Pietrangelos absence is even more troublesome since Kevin Shattenkirk, whose ice time had been declining, finished Game One with an unpleasant minus-3 rating. If, as expected, great goaltending is the standard in this series, then St. Louis will need to create more havoc in front of Quick in order to have a chance at scoring enough to win because the line between winning and losing is razor thin. (and, from Friday night) OT FOR THE DOGSMartin Hanzal made the most of an offensive zone faceoff, beating Mike Fisher and then passing the puck past Predators captain Shea Weber to an open Ray Whitney in front of the net and Phoenixs leading scorer in the regular season gave the Coyotes their fourth overtime win of the playoffs, 4-3, despite being outshot 42-24. Based on their reputations, few would have predicted that a Phoenix-Nashville matchup would result in a wide-open game with plenty of scoring chances, but that was the case in Game One and it shouldnt come as a complete shock since Nashville ranked 20th (30.8) and Phoenix ranked 28th (31.6) in shots allowed per game during the regular season. Desperate to score the tying goal, Nashville outshot Phoenix 16-1 in the third period, tying the game on Martin Erats goal with 4:42 remaining. Coyotes RW Mikkel Boedker continued to make an offensive contribution, scoring his third goal of the playoffs. Boedker had 11 goals and 24 points in 82 regular season games, but has three goals and five points in seven playoff games. While Boedker can easily be considered an unlikely contributor, D Rostislav Klesla is even more surprising. After scoring 13 points in 65 regular season games, Klesla, who had a goal and an assist in Game One, now has six points in seven postseason contests. Not only are the Coyotes getting contributions from their unsung performers, they finally got RW Radim Vrbata on the board, with his first goal of the playoffs and he led Phoenix with five shots on goal in the game. Its playing with fire to keep getting outshot by such wide margins and relying on G Mike Smith to bail them out, but thats been the Coyotes approach in the playoffs and, so far, its worked for them. PETERSBURG, Fla. jerseys from china . Thorntons agent, Anton Thun, confirmed on Monday that his client was appealing the punishment, which was given to Thornton for punching and injuring unsuspecting Penguins defenceman Brooks Orpik two Saturdays ago.PHOENIX -- A trip to the desert was enough to get the Chicago Bulls back on track. Carlos Boozer had 19 points and 12 rebounds, and the Bulls snapped the Phoenix Suns five-game winning streak with a 101-92 victory on Tuesday night. The Bulls shot 45 per cent from the field and had five players score in double figures, bouncing back from an ugly 99-70 loss at Sacramento on Monday. The Bulls shot 28 per cent and were outrebounded 53-30 against the Kings. One night later, it was a completely different story. "You could have used an excuse if you chose to do so, but thats what I love about the team," Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said. "They come out and theyre going to fight. They picked themselves up and did it together and you could tell in the first quarter the commitment to get back, the commitment to get to put their bodies in front of people and take charges, make hustle plays, make effort plays." Jimmy Butler and D.J. Augustin had 18 points apiece for the Bulls, who won for the fifth straight time in Phoenix. Joakim Noah, who was ejected in the third quarter of the loss at Sacramento, had 14 points and 14 rebounds. Chicago (24-24) had dropped three of four, including an 88-79 loss at New Orleans on Saturday. "We got punched in the mouth in New Orleans, we got punched in the mouth in Sacramento and we just wanted to come out and compete for 48 minutes as a team," Noah said. The Bulls kept the Suns prolific offence in check, holding them 13 points under their average even though Phoenix (29-19) was coming off two days rest. Boozer didnt play for much of the fourth quarter as Chicago went mainly with Taj Gibson as an interior defender, but his teammates did damage on offence down the stretch. Augustin had three fourth-quarter 3-pointers to help keep the Bulls in front. Noah also had a couple of key baskets in the final period. Butlers 3-pointer with 4:43 to play gave the Bulls an 89-80 lead, but Goran Dragic hit a 3 and Leandro Barbosa, playing extended minutes with sharpshooter Gerald Green struggling, drove for a layup to cut the lead to 89-85. Then Butler and Noah came up with back-to-back baskets, and the Suns rally fizzled. Drragic, the reigning Western Conference player of the week, led Phoenix with 24 points. wholesale jerseys. It was the guards fifth straight game with 20 or more points. Channing Frye had 18, and Barbosa scored nine of his 13 in the fourth quarter. "We gave up so much easy stuff," Dragic said. "We didnt bring it, no energy and we didnt do smart plays. They did not let us run our actions. They were denying our big guys. It was just hard to pass and cut." Down 13 points in the third quarter, the Suns went on a 13-4 run to close to 50-46 on Dragics driving layup at the 9-minute mark. The Bulls went up by 11 on a follow by Boozer, but the Suns cut the lead to 60-55 on a pair of Dragic free throws with 4:36 left. Mike Dunleavy scored eight of his 11 points in the third quarter, helping Chicago carry a 69-63 lead into the fourth. The game started with a brisk pace, but the Suns missed more shots and had more turnovers in what turned out to be an offensively deficient first quarter. So low that the 13 points for Phoenix was its lowest total in a first quarter this season. "Thats the difference of a team that really gets after it defensively and makes it tough on all the shots," Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. "They took us out of our stuff but we let them do whatever they wanted." Boozer had eight points and five rebounds to help Chicago to a 21-13 lead after one. NOTES: Noah was fined $15,000 by the NBA for verbally abusing officials after he was ejected Monday in Sacramento. Noah started Tuesday nights game. "I never thought it warranted suspension, so it was probably appropriate," Thibodeau said. "He got fined for cursing." ... Noah has 22 double-doubles and Boozer 15 this season . Suns players Markieff Morris, Dragic and Green were assessed technical fouls. ... The Suns never led on Tuesday after being in front for all but 1:59 of the 192 total minutes of the previous four games . Suns guard Eric Bledsoe missed his bobblehead night with a right knee injury. ... A bird got into the US Airways Center seating bowl during the second quarter and flew a lap around the court and into the upper deck before finding its way out. cheap nfl jerseys cheap soccer jerseys ' ' '
